Ageing well in Victoria action plan 2026–2030
Today the Victorian Government launched Ageing well in Victoria action plan 2026–2030: strengthening wellbeing for older people.
In Victoria, more than one in 5 people are over 60 years. By 2046, it’s projected that older people will make up one quarter of our population. More people are living longer, healthier and more active lives than ever before.
The action plan sets out the priorities for supporting older people in Victoria.
Ageing well looks different person to person
We know there is no single experience of ageing in Victoria.
Older people are diverse with different cultures, identities and life experiences. Their skills and knowledge enrich our diverse and vibrant society. These efforts make an enormous contribution to our state.
Many older people experience overlapping forms of disadvantage and barriers to ageing well.
The action plan reflects this diversity and intersectionality. It encourages flexible approaches that respond to people’s different circumstances. It focuses on the areas that matter most to older people:
- staying connected to family, friends and communities
- staying independent and ageing well at home
- having access to services and support when needed
- feeling safe, respected and included.
About the action plan
This updated action plan builds on the achievements of the Ageing well in Victoria action plan 2022–2026. It was developed in consultation with government departments, the Senior Victorians Advisory Committee and funded community partners.
The action plan is guided by 4 priority areas:
- resilient, connected older people: supporting older people to build and maintain strong social, cultural and community connections. This fosters participation, purpose and belonging.
- tech-savvy older people: strengthening digital inclusion, access and confidence. Older people can fully take part in an increasingly digital world.
- valuing older people:promoting safety, inclusion, dignity and respect. Recognising the contribution older people make to Victorian communities.
- healthy and independent older people: supporting older people to stay healthy, well and independent. Older people can continue ageing well at home and in their community.
The action plan focuses on actions that can be achieved within existing resources. This provides policy continuity and supports stakeholders to plan for long-term success.
The Victorian Government will continue working in partnership with older people, community and stakeholders to implement the action plan.
Together, we can continue building a society where everyone can age well.
